Hurricanes Impacting St George's Caye
There have been at least two major hurricanes within the past 100 years that have impacted island residents and changed the shape of the island, namely the 1931 Hurricane and Hurricane Hattie in 1961. There have been other smaller hurricanes that have caused property damage, and early hurricanes on which we lack information.

Searching NOAA Historical Hurricane tracks results in a collage reminiscent of the game Pick up Stick! Thankfully there are not a lot of red and purple sticks in the pile running through Belize. A closer view of the area around St George's Caye shows two major hurricanes, 1931 and Hattie. There were a total of 38 hurricanes that ran through Belize since 1852.
